The Sagalund Children series is based on a museum book by Amos Anderson about Sagalund from the early 1900s.
I purchased the book in the late 2000s, inspired by the doll figures it contained. They sparked the idea for an artwork series exploring otherness through drawing, painting, and embroidery.
However, I had already begun working on the images in the mid-1990s, using yarn-based papers I had made with a hollander beater.

The broken dolls depicted in the book spoke to me — many had been beautifully repaired, allowing play to continue. One example is the doll Birka, who, at some point in her life, had been given a wooden leg.

The series includes more than ten individual works, though only a few are visible in the main image.

The Sagalund Children installation can also be constructed in the form of a mobile.
