Saku Paasilahti: ESCALOPE DE VEAU BOHEMIENNE – köyhän taiteilijan vasikanleike

GOURMET FICTION, 1995, 8 photos and installation , size 150x180 cm
Background to this work is in my long lasting interest to gastronomy and it ́s history. My aim is to create strong and direct contact to food materials by photographies. I wanted to put audience into an uncomfortable situation, between attractive and repulsive, between beautifull and coarse. To achieve this I found a special printing technique where insted of the negative I used a thin slice of some raw transparent food material. I have used no camera nor film to produce the originals of these images. This technique really shows our food in a new light. Different structures of food materials appear in a large scale, creating in images some surprising emotions and symbolical meanings.
