Sari Koski-Vähälä: Riippuvat puutarhat – The Hanging Gardens

Technique: collecting / pistachio shells, old frames
The beginning of the work takes place in 2012 and the work is still progressing. It is a mystery to me why I started collecting pistachio shells. I know that in the old days every imaginable thing possible was collected and kept. Later on, it's terribly difficult to discard it all. In any case, pistachios belong to the sumac plants, like mango. I read somewhere that there probably grew pistachio trees in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon some 600 Before Common Era. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon is one of the seven wonders of antiquity and reportedly the only one which existence has not been proven. A miracle that didn't exist.
