Marko Acton Saarelainen: Acton / Helvetica, metamorphosis pt. 1 – 3
I played a bit with the contrast between graffiti and Helvetica-font during my "Acton - Literally" solo exhibition which took place in 2016 at Make Your Mark -gallery. This is a series of three paintings where I presented my moniker "Acton" with Helvetica Neue Condensed Black. I added various elements that are more familiar from the letter design of traditional graffiti paintings. these very elements (drop shadows, highlights, arrows, extensions) are the very key elements that differ graffiti from ordinary text and move it closer to cartoon-like expression. Each painting is an individual work of it's own, but at the exhibition they were laid out as a larger whole as seen in the picture. This set was also on display at "For The Love Of Freedom" exhibition.
