from the series Ghosts of Gesture//Il Movimento Fantasma.

Performative Ghosts of Gesture/Il Movimento Fantasma explores movement in frozen time, imaginary memories and play of identities.

In the series I perform a dual role of a photographer and a person being photographed dressed in vintage dresses.

The aim of the project is not to create a believable illusion of another reality. In the photographs I am both myself and an unknown other, I am both in the present and in the past. The identities mix and overlap, I am having a dialog both with myself and with an unfamiliar "foreign" other. Gestures, emotions and expressions are provoked by imaginary memories and situations in which I place myself in the role of being photographed.

Ghosts of Gesture mirrors the established gestures through which gender identity is represented and with which gender is reproduced and recognized.

The series will be exhibited in a solo show in 2013 in Helsinki.
