Marika Viskari: Mariaanien haudan aarre
The painting was created for my exhibition Värähtelijä in Galleria Halmetoja Mänttä 2024. My intention was to depict an imaginary journey to the deepest corners of the sea, corners where people do not yet know what is there. And then, can anything be found there? Even a golden magical treasure, as appeared in this painting through my brush.
To my delight, many visitors to the exhibition also saw the northern lights in the work. That was when I experienced great success: in my art, I am fascinated by depicting extreme journeys, and what could be more extreme than a journey in space from the northern lights blazing in the starry sky, to the deepest point of our planet, the Mariana Trench, 11 kilometers deep in the Pacific Ocean.
