Artist’s Statement
Hi. I am a visual artist Marika Viskari. I have been worked as professional artist since 2019. I usually work with painting. I use oil paints and acrylic paints. Sometimes, in addition to paintings, I also create installations or mixed media object works, where I use recycled silk fabric, old wood material, or utilize 3D printing. I work slowly, unplanned, guided by emotions.
My works are about color, light, energy and journey. Color is actually just light too. My paintings are typically semi-representational expressive views of imaginary world or space landscapes. I hope that my sensitive and powerful works tell their viewers about the journey. I create a visible journey through the cracks of time, from the dustiest corners of the Milky Way to the deepest secrets of the ocean floor, all the way to the Mariana Trench. When depicting a journey, I am fascinated by time - a journey from the past and memories, -through this moment- to the future, to its dreams.
The journey is sometimes in light, sometimes in darkness. Everything and everyone in this universe has its own energy, vibrational frequency and life span.
My paintings are delicate but powerful, glowing and energetic. If there are sometimes figures in my work, I have not planned them for that, but they just appear on the canvas as the process progresses, and then I just strengthen them a little stronger or more distinct. Colors are very important to me, and typically a work begins only with love for a certain shade. Often there is a strong light in my work, the source of which remains a mystery.
I feel that I did not become an artist, but I have always been an artist and will always be an artist. It is a natural part of me, like my eyes, hands, heart, and personality.
My studio is located in Kangasala in an old barracks building at Tykkitie 1 Kangasala.
I also do custom work.
