Light Waves is a ten-part sculpture series installed in the elevator lobbies of Kuopio University Hospital. The works approach the “Light of Life” theme of the New Heart hospital´s art project through nature motifs and by depicting moments from everyday life and celebration.

Each piece is placed in its own lobby so that every floor has its own colour, ranging from deep red on the lowest level (floor 0) to purple on the top level (floor 9). The coloured backlight of each work shifts subtly over time, drifting calmly within the tonal range of its segment of the spectrum.

The titles of the individual works are terms describing light and lighting conditions: Gleam, Blaze, Shine, Shady, Glint, Shimmer, Sheen, Sparkle and Twinkle. The main title, Light Waves, refers both to the wave nature of light and to the various wave-like forms present in many of the pieces.
