Artist’s Statement

Reetta Gröhn-Soininen (b.1969) is a sculptor from Joensuu who makes figurative sculptures from wood. She especially sculpts emotion and movement. Gröhn-Soininen makes abstract and difficult-to-process emotion material, visible and concrete. Color is also a very physical element in the sculptures. Its random flow is an important counterbalance to the discipline of sculpture. Gröhn-Soininen has been dealing with death and mortality in her works for a few years. The series of works that began with personal mourning has continued into global mourning in our wartime world. The works also include gratitude for the continuation and flourishing of life.
