Marika Viskari: Suojelija
The mixed media work Suojelija was completed at Halmetoja Gallery in Mänttä for my Värähtelijä exhibition. The work Suojelija, which will be hung on the wall like a painting, was painted in oil on the roof shingles of my 120-year-old family house. The roof was torn down to make way for a new one and I collected the shingles for my art.
The word Suojelija refers to the roof as a symbol and as a concrete protection, - warmth, security, home. Since the shingles are the roof of my family's old house, the name also refers to the belief that the deceased members of our families protect us.
The colorful work has attracted great attention in my exhibitions, and I plan to continue working on this series of works for a long time. The work in question was the first in the series.
