Behind what I do are thoughts about unfairness, longing, loss, achievement, and contentment. Something is missing from the start, but people also destroy other people, built environments, cultural heritage, nature, and opportunities with their actions. The way one responds to change and lack affects how one manages with them. Do we think about life through what is missing, what we lack?
In my art, I highlight moments when I realize that the situation isn’t okay, that I long for change. I start looking at the subject from my own life situations and then expand my perspective outward to see how others react. I’m interested in how people deal with their lack. Is it something that defines and limits being, or an inner resource? I started from the idea that something is missing. I work with this thought by deliberately destroying fabric. Fire destroys. Something from the original is gone. Something that was there before is missing.
