"A layer is soil material inside the ground that is roughly the same and spread out widely in a sheet-like way. Layers look like stripes when viewed from the side, which stand out from each other. Sometimes there is a clear boundary between older and younger layers, which is called a discontinuity surface."

The work combines the idea of sediments, which are actually traces of different generations' lives. The theme of burning originated during a residency in Spain, where forest fires and their aftermath prompted her to reflect on destruction, preservation and memory. The work carries with it a connection to the landscape and to people, a connection to the history of craftsmanship, and a connection to women’s labour. Women’s history has been lost more easily than men’s.
