OWLA was created with three choirs from Northern Ostrobothnia and 56 singers. Recorded speech and singing form a continuously changing composition across twenty loudspeakers. A generative system recombines fragments of the recordings, so the work never repeats identically.
Visitors can move among the voices, listening to an individual singer or the whole choir from different distances. A shallow water basin forms part of the installation.
Presented in the Tasku space at Oulu Art Museum, 24 August–26 November 2023.
Sound artist and convener: Jaakko Autio.
Composition: Anna Voutilainen.
Choirs: Cassiopeia, Cantio Laudis and Tuiran Chamber Choir.
