Minna Väisänen: Näkymätön, ei mikään / Invisible, non-existent

Completion year: 2002
Technique: Installation
My installation "Invisible, non-existent" consists of a stand and a reflected image representing different kind of people in different situations in life. All the characters of the artwork are anonymous, the only reference to communication between people is a series of texts reflected to a canvas at the back of the installation.

The texts are citations from diaries and poems of six people who are diagnosed as mentally ill. Characteristic to many of these texts is a certain feeling of invisibility and non-existence. By publishing these six writings I want to make the life of mentally ill people more visible and raise discussion about mental illnesses and their treatment.

All the texts are selected from writings of actual persons.
